Man buried alive in Perak landslide; four houses damaged

SELAMA: A man was buried alive by a major landslide which struck his house in Kampung Teras, Ijok, near Batu Kurau, on Friday evening.

The remains of Hanudin Bahazim, 60, were recovered from what was once his kitchen at about 10.30pm, Bernama reported.

The 6pm incident, which is believed to have been triggered by heavy rain, also damaged three other houses in the village.

Up to 82 personnel form the police force, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department and Health Ministry were involved in recovering Hanudin, and aiding survivors at the scene.

Hanudin’s widow, Milah Che Pi, 51, said her husband was in the kitchen when the landslide struck.

“I was performing my prayers when I heard a loud bang coming from the kitchen. It happened so fast,” she added.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu expressed his appreciation to search and rescue personnel and government agencies and departments involved in the operation.
