Puchong landslide: Authorities going house-to-house for structural damage checks

SERDANG: The Petaling District and Land Office will be conducting house-to-house checks along Jalan Wawasan 3/9 Taman Wawasan, Puchong here, following a landslide incident on Saturday.

District officer Rahilah Rahmat said the checks would involve 17 houses including nine which were badly affected, to examine the condition and structure of the homes.

"We will check for cracks, as well as the possibility of old cracks which may have gone unnoticed by residents.

"For now, there are nine houses affected. However, we will have to wait for a full report by the Selangor Mineral and Geoscience Department for further action," she said when met at the location on Sunday.

Rahilan, together with Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner A A Anbalagan, Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) councillor Lee Jen Uyin as well as representatives of other agencies, had conducted checks in the area.

On whether there is still soil movement, Rahilah said preliminary reports suggest no such movement.

She said the authorities are working hard to expedite slope repair works given the uncertain weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the occupants of nine terraced houses in Taman Wawasan Puchong here who were ordered to evacuate their homes following the landslide are seeking shelter elsewhere.

Anbalagan said eight of them were taking shelter at the relief centre at Laman Puteri 3 Multipurpose Hall, here, while 21 moved to the homes of relatives.

He did not rule out the possibility of ordering more residents to move if reports from related agencies found that there were still soil movements.

"So far, based on the reports I have received, there is no more soil movement and Air Selangor has also shut off the water pipeline in this area because it is feared that the water from the leaking pipe will cause new movement," he said.

Anbalagan said the landslide also caused four vehicles to be buried but no casualties have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, a flash flood affected a total of 71 stalls and business premises in a shopping centre here, while 65 vehicles parked in the parking lot were damaged.
