14 tourists injured after tour bus overturns

TAPAH: 14 tourists from Indonesia sustained injuries when the tour bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident at KM315 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound, here, early today.

Tapah district police chief Superintendent Wan Azharudin Wan Ismail said initial investigations revealed that the tour bus was heading towards Genting Highlands, Pahang from Penang, when the accident occurred at 5.10am.

“The 34-year-old driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle after ramming into a road divider before it skidded and overturned by the roadside.

“All 14 tourists sustained minor injuries and they were taken to the Tapah Hospital for treatment while the bus driver escaped unhurt,” he said.

Wan Azharudin said all the injured victims were between the ages of 19 and 42.

He added that no arrests have been made and the case was being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
