KUALA LUMPUR: A major landslide struck Genting Highlands in Bentong, today, burying a portion of Jalan Genting-Amber Court.
The 5pm incident, which occurred following a non-stop downpour since 2pm, saw mud and rock burying a portion of both lanes of the road.
No one was injured in the incident, fortunately. Several videos taken moments after the landslide occurred have emerged online.
One 30-second video captured by mobile phone shows a thick trail of mud, rock and debris running down the side of a hill, over Jalan Genting-Amber Court, and further down the terraced hillside. The First World Hotel is visible to the left of the landslide, while a long line of stationary cars can be seen snaking down the road.
According to Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue station’s senior assistant chief Yusry Abdullah Sani, they were alerted to the situation at 5.20pm and deployed ten personnel in three machines to the scene.
“We are currently working to clear the road of the debris. We are being assisted by contractors who were working at the site.
“The landslide completely covered both lanes of Jalan Genting-Amber Court.
“However, the main route in and out of Genting Highlands is not affected,” he told Harian Metro.
Meanwhile, Bentong police chief Superintendent Yusuf Unis said that the situation is under control and that the authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
“However, the route here has been temporarily closed to facilitate clean-up works,” he told Berita Harian.
