PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian government has extended monetary donation to the Bahamas government to finance recovery efforts following the disaster wrought by Hurricane Dorian which affected 10,000 people in September.

In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said the contribution of US$25,000 (RM103,650) was handed over by the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations in New York, Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin to Sheila Carey, the Permanent Representative of the Bahamas to the United Nations in New York.

“Malaysia stands in solidarity with the Government and people of the Bahamas as they undertake rebuilding efforts following the unprecedented natural disaster,” the statement read, adding that the contribution was from the ministry’s disaster relief fund.

It was reported that the hurricane pummelled the Bahamas with 320kph winds. It was one of the strongest Caribbean hurricanes recorded and stands as the worst disaster in Bahamian history.
