Wisma Putra: Proof of online donations to AAKRP can be used for income tax relief

KUALA LUMPUR: Proof of donations to the Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine (AAKRP) done online can be used in claiming income tax relief.

Wisma Putra in a statement said the Finance Ministry agreed to its request in relaxing the requirement for tax exemptions under Section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967.

"Apart from official government receipts, documents generated from electronic banking will also be accepted by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

"This will apply to donations made to AAKRP from Oct 9 until it closes," read the statement.

Donors are required to keep proof of transactions in accordance with Section 82(A) of the Act, it said.

Banking documents accepted for this purpose include those generated at cash deposit machines, automated teller machine (ATM), cheque deposit machine; cash, cheque or bank draft at CIMB Bank counters, cash transfer through e-wallet, interbank money transfer, telegraphic transfer and Real Time Electronic Fund and Securities System (RENTAS).

"The Foreign Ministry would like to express its deep gratitude to Malaysians who have contributed to AAKRP in helping the Palestinians."
