#NSTShareWithUs Moon over Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: Taken any good pictures lately? How about sharing them with us and fellow readers of the New Straits Times?

Here we have a few beautiful photos taken by Sofiyan Yahya, a mechanical engineer and entrepreneur with 40 years' experience in the oil and gas industry.

He has published two books and was a regular contributor to the New Straits Times, Utusan Malaysia and The New Paper.

The first photo he shared with us (photo above) was taken last night. Speaking to the New Straits Times, Sofiyan said as he saw the moon and the city skyline beneath it, he immediately realised that it made for a lovely composition.

"Lately it has been raining every late afternoon and early evening. It was a pleasure to look up and see clear skies last night over Kuala Lumpur.

"Hence I took a shot to capture the lovely night scene," he said.

On the moon itself, Sofiyan, an avid nature photographer said he zoomed in for a closer look.

"But as always the moon remains an enigmatic mystery, no matter how clear it has been rendered by modern equipment," he remarked.

Sharing several other earlier shots he took, Sofiyan recalled a trekking trip he took in the jungle in Semenyih two weeks ago in which he chanced upon a fallen log.

"Usually these fallen logs are great to spot fungi. While checking around the log, I noticed something strange moving slowly on top of the log.

"I have never seen it before, but it appears like a weird looking millipede. I took a few photos first in case it could spring away or craw veryl fast and disappear.

"Fortunately it was low enough for me to have a good look. That was when I realised it was a type of beetle. Much later, in the leisure of home, I am able to find out that it is a trilobite beetle.

"It is a rare find and I was very pleased with the discovery. Now we know trilobite beetles can be found close to the city of Kuala Lumpur," he said.
