17 KL roads to close for Nov 24 cycling event

KUALA LUMPUR: Seventeen major roads along iconic landmarks in the capital will be closed on Nov 24 in conjunction with the ‘Kuala Lumpur OCBC Cycle 2019’.

Stretching 21km, the affected roads are Jalan Raja, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Ampang, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Conlay, Jalan Stonor, Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Perak, Jalan Putra, Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Tun Ismail and Jalan Kinabalu.

City Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said the roads would be closed in stages beginning at Dataran Merdeka at 6am, and would be reopened to the public after 9.30am.

“The public are advised to avoid using these roads on that day.

“If they really have to, do use public transport such as buses, MRT, LRT or Grab,” he said today.

Zulkefly said 161 traffic officers would be on duty and would be assisted by 30 Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) wardens.

Those who have queries can call the City traffic department at 03-2071 9777 or visit its Facebook or Instagram at Trafik KL.

‘Kuala Lumpur OCBC Cycle 2019’ implementation committee chairman Datuk Naim Mohamad said 2,300 participants from 21 countries had signed up for the event.

He said there would be a new 21km category in the ride event, along with the regular 42km category.

Naim said the thrust of the event remained the same, where participants would have a chance to challenge themselves by riding through a longer distance than the twice-monthly 7km Kuala Lumpur OCBC Car Free Morning.

“We are truly grateful for the support from police and the City Hall which have been working closely with us to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety on the event day.

“This includes efficient planning to communicate road closures to the public.

“We look forward to another successful cycling event,” he added.

The event is organised by Multigreen Events and supported by DBKL.
