Guan Eng tight-lipped over Cabinet reshuffle

KUALA LUMPUR: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng is keeping mum on news about a possible Cabinet reshuffle as announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.

“I have nothing to add because the prime minister has said that (on the Cabinet reshuffle).

“We are reading it (the news) for the first time and he (Dr Mahathir) will discuss with us. Let’s wait for the discussion,” Lim said when asked whether the party had discussed the matter.

Lim, who is DAP secretary-general, said this after the launch of the International Social Wellbeing Conference 2019 today.

When asked if he was worried that he would be removed from Cabinet, Lim merely smiled and said: “Can we go to the next question?” before leaving.

Dr Mahathir, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman, had yesterday announced the possibility of a Cabinet reshuffle, possibly before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting next year.

After chairing the party’s supreme leadership council meeting, Dr Mahathirsaid the reshuffle would take into consideration the performance and capabilities of the ministers.

“It is our opinion that there is a need for a reshuffle in the Cabinet.

“I have listened to their (leaders’) views following the development on calls to hold a Cabinet reshuffle, but (it will) not (happen) today,” he was reported as saying.
