IPOH: Two people were killed in a fire which destroyed their apartment unit at Taman Meru Impiana here, early today.
The identities of the deceased have yet to be ascertained, but they are believed to have been a married elderly couple who were trapped in the dwelling as it was engulfed in flames at 3.30am.
Their remains were found in one of the apartment’s rooms.
A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they received a distress call at 3.40am and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the site.
According to Bernama, the fire was doused at 4.45am.
The spokesperson added that the bodies were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for a post-mortem; and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
