MACC admits mistake in PKR duo's sacking

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it erred when it advised disciplinary action to be taken against two PKR members.

Its deputy chief Commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the mistake was made by the MACC reporting branch head through a letter to the party, which suggested disciplinary action (against the two members) for violating the party’s code of ethics.

He said according to guidelines, any report of misconduct could only be sent to the federal or state ministries and agencies.

“However, the guidelines are not bound to any political party.

“In fact, it is not MACC’s policy to make such a report for a political party over its members’ misconduct,” he said yesterday.

The statement was in response to media inquiries as to whether MACC could propose disciplinary action to a political party against its members who had committed misconduct.

Azam said MACC would send a letter of notification to the PKR disciplinary board chairman to explain the error so that no misunderstandings would arise in the future.
