40pc of landowners submit feedback forms on govt plan for Kampung Baru

PUTRAJAYA: To date, 40 per cent of some 5,000 landowners in Kampung Baru have submitted feedback forms to declare if they agreed or disagree with the government’s offer to buy their plots at RM1,000 per sq ft.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said the ministry would engage their officers to meet those who disagreed or have yet to respond.

“After Nov 30 (Saturday), we will compile data and see the status of the lots.

“By June next year, I hope to finalise the redevelopment plans of Kampung Baru, for that the first Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) will be signed,” he said after attending a press conference on Urban Poor Seminar today.

“The ministry has the responsibility to make the people understand that the redevelopment is for the best and the offer is also good.

“Everything about the matter is transparent and nothing is hidden,” he added.

It was reported that the government had last month increased its offer by RM150 per sq ft as the final price for buying over the land in Kampung Baru after discussing with the Kampong Baru Development Corp, with the agreement of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The additional RM150 per sq ft of the purchase price would be paid in the form of stakes in an a special purpose vehicle (SPV).

The offer options were shared during a town hall session on Sept 21 this year.

Khalid had previously said that it was estimated that the government would spend around RM6.7 billion using the RM1,000 per sq ft calculation.

The gross development value of the area is estimated to be around RM30 billion.

The 120-year-old Kampung Baru covers six villages and a 120ha expanse of land in the middle of the city. Of the 80ha earmarked for redevelopment, 62ha or 77.5 per cent is privately owned.
