62 kids in mass circumcision event

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 62 children took part in a mass circumcision programme orgamised by Suara Komuniti Berita Harian at Balai Berita Bangsar today.

The boys were dressed like Malay warriors in baju melayu and tanjak (headgear) and marched to the drumbeat of traditional Malay music to herald the ceremony.

In addition, they were treated to a martial arts performances before being presented with bunga telur (decorated egg with flower) and pulut (rice pudding) as a symbol of Malay custom, before undergoing a laser-based circumcision procedure.

Participant Luqman Judge Zulazmi, 7, who was accompanied by his mother Radiana Rais, 44, was very calm when his name was called.

He was seen reciting the al-Fatihah and three Qul's as the circumcision process began.

"At first it hurt a little, and then it's fine. I'm an adult now," he said.

Present at the event were Berita Harian group editor Khaidir A Majid, MediCOM Malaysia secretary Abdul Razak Mohamed and New Straits Times Press head of Corporate Communications Wan Abdillah Wan Nawi.

The programme was also graced by the the special appearance of Hot FM mascot Hang Omar Timur and Professor Kool of Kool FM.
