6-year old girl feared drowned in Pahang's Sungai Lipis

KUANTAN: A 6-year-old girl is feared drowned after she fell into Sungai Lipis at Kampung Penjom, Lipis, early today, and was swept away.

Nur Dhiya Aqeela Mohd Khairul Adlie had been carried away by strong currents, said Lipis District Fire and Rescue Department Head of Zone 3, Shahrulnizam Nasir.

He added that authorities received a distress call on the incident at 10.20am.

Fifteen firefighters and personnel are involved in the operation, assisted by police, the Civil Defence Force and members of the local community.

Help has also been sought from the Water Rescue Team from the Fire and Rescue

Department's Bukit Angin station.

“The search and rescue operation is using the ‘surface water’ rescue method.

"(But) the river’s water level is quite high, making it difficult for us to locate the victim," Shahrulnizam said in a statement today.

Search efforts were halted at 6.45pm due to heavy rainfall and will resume at 8am on Tuesday.
