Kelantan-Thai border under control despite some flooded areas

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan-Thai border is still under control despite certain parts in Pasir Mas and Tumpat being inundated in floodwaters.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said police had taken all the necessary steps to prevent smuggling activities along the border, which was only being separated by the Golok river.

“All agencies involved were told to beef up their checks against smuggling activities as we are afraid it might be rampant during this monsoon season. To achieve this, we also working closely with the army," he told reporters.

Hasanuddin said eight of the 55 police stations state-wide were inundated in floodwaters. However, he said policemen at these stations continued their duties as normal. He said among the affected stations are Rantau Panjang, Kuala Jambu and Simpangan.

Hasanuddin said overall the flood situation in the state had slightly improved and the number of districts affected were down to seven today compared to nine previously.

The affected districts include Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Pasir Putih and Machang.
