Lynas provides back-to-school supplies for underprivileged pupils

KUANTAN: A set of triplets was the centre of attention when they were taken on a shopping spree for new school uniforms and stationary at a shopping complex here.

The trio - Habib Akmal Habib Hussin, Nur Athirah and Nur Atifah, all aged six - who will enrol in Standard One at SK Balok during the new school term next year, were busy trying out uniforms sponsored by Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd's (Lynas).

They were joined by their elder brother Habib Yusof, 11, and were busy choosing their school kits with assistance from Lynas staff.

Habib Yusof said he and his siblings were grateful to Lynas for buying them new uniforms, school bags, shoes and stationary items.

"I remember last year my father brought me to a shopping complex in town to buy new school uniforms. Lucky, this year my three siblings and me were chosen by Lynas to be part of the back to school programme so my father can spend his salary on other household expenditure," he said, adding his father worked as a clerk in Gebeng.

Habib Yusof , the fourth of eight siblings, said since the school uniforms had been purchased, they could now look forward to attend school.

"The four of us will be studying at SK Balok. As the elder brother, I will be responsible to take care of them at school and make sure they adapt to the new environment quickly," he said as the triplets gathered around him.

Nur Athirah and Nur Atifah looked petite in their new baju kurung while Habib Akmal seem fascinated with his black school shoes.

Meanwhile Nur Amirah Khosin, 11, from SK Cherating, said her family was relieved that Lynas had come to their aid to help with the preparations for the new school term.

"My family can now spend their money on my other siblings. I feel fortunate as I will be able to wear a new set of uniforms to school next year," she said.

Meanwhile, Lynas vice-president (people and culture) Mimi Afzan Afza said 150 primary school children from low income families were selected to receive the new school kits.

She said the chosen children from Chendor, Sungai Ular, Balok, Chengal Lempong, Sungai Karang, Gebeng and Beserah received school items worth RM200 each.
