Who invited 'Ujang'?

KUALA LUMPUR: Uninvited guests at a wedding can be a nuisance, especially if it's a seated affair and there is absolutely nowhere to put them.

However, if the uninvited guest doesn't require a chair, then perhaps some arrangement could be made, because weddings are a happy affair, after all.

But what if the uninvited guest is an elephant?

That does put one in a conundrum now, doesn't it? Yes, the elephant does not need a chair, or a table to eat off, but where does one put an elephant at a wedding? Next to the dais? Or perhaps near the deejay's booth?

This may sound farfetched but "Ujang" the elephant made an appearance at a wedding in Dewan Semerah Padi, Kampung Lukut in Kota Tinggi, Johor last night.

Mohd Yazid Ayub, 49, said Ujang "dropped by" at about 11pm just as the wedding reception ended.

The sight of Ujang strolling by on the road outside the hall attracted the attention of those who were there, but the sight was not as shocking to them as one would expect.

This is because the villagers had been seeing quite a bit of Ujang of late.

"We named him Ujang and we recognise him because one of his tusks is broken.

"But Ujang has never disturbed us," he said.

Many still at the hall took to snapping photos of Ujang's "visit" and uploaded it on social media, which then gained the attention of Netizens.

"We estimate there are some 39 elephants in the jungle near this village," Mohd Yazid informed.

So the next time you plan a wedding, be sure to have some contingency plan for uninvited guests like Ujang.
