Another elephant found dead in Sabah plantation

LAHAD DATU: Another elephant was found dead at a plantation area here this morning.

Sabah Wildlife director Augustine Tuuga confirmed that the pachyderm carcass was found at Bakapit near here.

"We will give (further) information after post-mortem," he replied in a WhatsApp message.

It was reported that the elephant was found by a plantation worker at about 6.30am.

The Wildlife Department personnel had gone to the site to investigate upon receiving information on the discovery.

To date, there were more than 20 elephant deaths reported this year which either caused by poaching, killing each other and natural causes.

The state government had said during recent elephant experts meeting here that it was crucial for humans and elephants to coexist together.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew cum State Tourism, Culture and Environment minister had also stated that there would be meetings with stakeholders on the wildlife sanctuary in Lower Kinabatangan to solve the human-elephant conflict.
