Home Ministry: Gov't mulling use of drones along Sabah's borders

JAKARTA: Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government is weighing the use of drones to monitor Sabah’s borders and coastal areas to ensure the state’s security.

He said frequent occurrences of abduction and cross-border crime in Sabah’s waters means that the government requires more efficient security measures.

“In the waters of Sabah (for example), the border with neighbouring countries (the Philippines and Indonesia) is too long, stretching over 1,000km.

“We can use drones in the border areas, this is what we are thinking about,” he said during a get-together event with Malaysians in Indonesia at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta, last night.

Muhyiddin is on a two-day working visit to Indonesia to further strengthen strategic cooperation with the republic on issues of mutual interest.
