Downpour triggers flooding in Rompin, 142 evacuated

KUANTAN: A downpour that lasted for more than 24 hours caused flooding and forced the evacuation of 142 people from 35 families in Rompin district this evening.

They were moved to the flood evacuation shelter at SK Kampung Pianggu.

The evacuees were from Kampung Setajam, Kampung Teluk Gading Tanjung Gemok, Kampung Janglau, Kampung Pianggu and Kampung Kurnia.

State Civil Defence Force director Colonel Zainal Yusoff said Sungai Puteri started overflowing around noon today.

He said the river’s water level had reached 3.37m in Kuala Rompin, passing the danger level of 3.2m.
