Kelantan flood situation improves; evacuees stand at 2,576

KOTA BARU: The flood situation in Kelantan saw slight improvement this morning, with the number of evacuees at 2,576 people this morning compared to 3,409 on Thursday.

The victims from 900 families, are now taking shelter at 18 relief centres throughout the state.

The second wave of flood which began on Wednesday, also saw the number of district affected dropped to three this morning compared to six yesterday.

The three districts inundated are Pasir Mas with 1,909 evacuees, Tanah Merah (415) and Jeli (252).

The figure was recorded by the Welfare Department's flood disaster portal as of 8.38 this morning.

Reduced rainfall since Thursday also saw the majority of water level to fall this morning.

However, the Golok river bordering Thailand remained above its danger level.

The water level at the river stood at 10.44m as of 8.30am this morning which was 1.44m above its danger mark of 9m.

The Kelantan river at Kusial stood at 12.55m which was 0.55m above above its alert level of 12m.

Other rivers in the state had seen their water recede.

In JOHOR BARU, a total of 1,229 victims are still housed at 23 temporary relief centres (PPS) in five Johor districts as of 8am, compared to 1,468 victims as of 4pm on Thursday.

A state Disaster Committee Secretariat spokesperson said only 303 families were yet to be allowed to go home this morning compared to 375 families last night.

“In Segamat there 580 victims at 13 PPS, whereas in Kluang there were 217 victims at three PPS.

“There are also 267 victims in three PPS in Kota Tinggi, Pontian (71 victims in one PPS) and Batu Pahat (94 victims in three PPS), said the spokesperson.

He also said that two roads in Mersing and another three in Segamat were still cut-off due to floods.

“Only Jalan Telok Arong in Mersing had opened one of its lanes for light vehicles, whereas

Jalan Tanah Abang, Mersing; Jalan Paya Balai Badang, Jalan Putting and Jalan Tumang in Segamat are still closed for all vehicles.

In KUANTAN, the number of evacuees stood at 386 from 105 families in Pahang.

According to the Welfare Services Department application information, the flood evacuees are currently still housed at (PPS) in Temerloh, Bera and Rompin.

Meanwhile, only one river in Pahang had shown an increased in water level. According to the infobanjir.water.gov.my portal, Sungai Pahang, Lubuk Paku in Maran was above the alert level. Water level of the main water artery in the state stood 18.05 metre, above the alert level which was 14 metres.
