Australian man found dead in capsized boat in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: An Australian man was found dead in his capsized fiberglass boat which was adrift near the Kuah Ferry Terminal here, on Saturday night.

David John, 81, was discovered in his vessel at 11.20pm by crewmembers of a passenger ferry which was arriving from Kuala Perlis, and was approaching a jetty to dock.

“The ferry’s captain, Mohamad Elvin Tieng Abdullah, was informed by his crew that they had seen a capsized boat.

“As the ferry neared the boat, the vessel suddenly flipped over – and a man’s body could be seen, attached to the boat,” said Langkawi police chief Superintendent Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim.

He added that the authorities were immediately alerted to the find, and that the body was later transported by rescuers to the Forensics Unit of the Langkawi Hospital for a post-mortem.
