Colourful, multi-cultural Christmas at beloved watering hole

KUALA LUMPUR: Armed Forces veterans joined local professionals and expatriates at a multi-cultural Christmas celebration in the city, recently.

The celebration at the Red Onion Restaurant in Dataran Palma, Ampang was full of camaraderie as they reminisced their friendship of gathering at the outlet for the past two decades.

It was also held to usher in the new year.

Leading the veterans was former Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officer Commander (Rtd) Mohan Ayappan who caught up with his former comrades from the RMN base in Lumut, Perak.

Red Onion proprietor Lloyd Culas, his brother Charles Culas and Lloyd’s partner Kim Jin Jin Shun played great hosts with Christmas carols, a dinner buffet and "live" entertainment by the Music Mates band.

Also present was Red Onion’s pool captain Sree Anandan who is a prominent event organiser, while the band comprised Filipina duo Joyce Ligaya and Jean Aranas.

Charles said that it was the 15th year that such a Christmas gathering had been celebrated at the outlet, which served a host of professionals and expatriates.

“We are like a big family.

“Many a reunion or social gathering have been held here, with the patrons very familiar with each other,” said Charles.
