No AirAsia flights over Iran, Iraq conflict zones

SEPANG: AirAsia has confirmed that it has no flight routes over the affected airspace or conflict zones of Iraq and Iran.

“No AirAsia scheduled service is affected.

“Safety is of paramount importance to AirAsia; we continue to carefully monitor developments,” it said in a statement today.

The escalating tension between Iran and United States-led coalition has forced commercial international airlines to either divert their flights or avoid flying over the conflict area.

Malaysia Airlines had earlier said it would avoid flying over Iranian airspace.

Addressing passenger concerns, MAS said it did not fly over the airspace of Iraq on its flights to and from London, Jeddah and Madinah.

The adjustments by airlines were made in view of the rising conflict which saw Iran launching a missile attack on US-led forces in Iraq.

The attack was made in retaliation for the US air strike which killed top Iranian military general Qassem Soleimani.
