SEREMBAN: A single father was fined RM22,500 by the magistrate's court for fraudulently concealing RM16,000 cash belonging to his uncle 11 years ago.
Rezwat Shahril Zainal Ariffin, 44 , pleaded guilty to eight charges before magistrates V. Vanita and Mahyun Yusof in separate courts.
He faced five charges before Vanita, fraudulently concealing a total of RM10,500 handed over by Ibrahim Abd Ghani, 51, between June 17 and July 1, 2009.
The offence was committed at a house and restaurant in Taman Pulai 3 and Rahang Maybank branch.
He faced three charges before Mahyun, similar offences against the same victim involving a total sum of RM5,500.
These offences took place at Maybank in Rahang and Senawang branches here on June 22 and June 23, 2009.
The accused was charged under Section 424 of the Penal Code (Act 574) which provides for a maximum jail term of five years or a fine or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors Jiwan Kaur Malkith Singh and Sharifah Nur Amirah Syed Ahmad Yunus prosecuted.
The accused, represented by lawyers R. Kanapathy and Noor Azizi Abdull Aziz, appealed for a lenient sentence on grounds that the accused has four children who were still schooling and besides this was his first offence.
