Two babies in Johor infected with Influenza A

JOHOR BAHRU: Two nine-month-old babies were tested positive with Influenza A and are now being treated at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here.

Johor Education, Health and Human Resources Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said both babies have been treated since three to five days ago.

“Both babies are in stable condition and under the observation of specialists.

“Besides them, there are seven more children, aged between one and five years old, who are being treated for Influenza A in this hospital.

“There are also adults, mostly senior citizens and chronic patients, who are being treated at a special zone for Influenza A.

“In total, we have 17 patients infected with Influenza A,” he said at a press conference at the hospital today.

Also present were Johor Health director Dr Aman Rabu and HSA director Dr Mohtar Pungut@Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Aminolhuda advised parents with small children to avoid taking them to crowded places such as inside buildings.

“This is because the virus can spread easily and faster in such areas via air, especially if there are unhealthy individuals there,” he said.

He added that the schools in the state were also ordered to take precaution by isolating students who might be ill.

“Students who are not well have been ordered to stay at home, but if they still come to school, we have asked the school to temporary isolate them and inform their parents to fetch their children and bring them to the nearby clinic or hospital,” he said.
