New Prasarana and MAHB CEOs will be locals

PUTRAJAYA: The new Prasarana chief executive officer (CEO) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) group CEO will be “local figures”, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said today.

“These (the government-linked companies) two are important strategic assets. They are also two important transport operators (in the country).

“As far as the government is concerned, I’m sure both CEOs will be local figures,” Loke said when asked if the government was considering foreign candidates for the top jobs.

Earlier, Loke together with Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng witnessed the signing ceremony of an additional agreement to the MRT project partner for Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya here at the finance ministry.

Loke added however, the boards of the GLCs have yet to finalise the candidates.

“The board of directors for both Prasarana and MAHB have not made a decision yet (on the prospective candidates).

“After that, the respective boards will recommend (the candidates) to the Finance Ministry.”

It was reported on Jan 7, Prasarana president and chief executive officer Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain was suspended following the board of directors’ decision last December.

Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, on the other hand, had announced his resignation MAHB group CEO on Jan 6, to pursue other opportunities.

Echoing similar sentiments, Lim said Malaysia had enough talent and professionals for important positions.

“I haven't received the names (of prospective candidates) but I would agree that we have enough professionals in Malaysia who are suitable for the job.

“Malaysians all over the world are helming important positions. The only thing is to headhunt the right person.”
