BN likely to retain Kimanis seat with greater majority

BEAUFORT: Barisan Nasional is likely to retain the Kimanis parliamentary seat with a majority higher than in the 14th General Election.

During last General Election, former BN member of parliament Datuk Seri Anifah Aman secured 156-majority against Parti Warisan Sabah’s Datuk Karim Bujang.

This time, unofficial results show BN’s candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin secured 1,609 majority with 10,449 votes as of 7pm.

Karim, who is re-fielded for Kimanis by-election, has 8,840 votes when ballots from 60 out of 70 boxes were counted.

The poll which ended at 5pm showed more than 76.14 per cent voter turnout.

Kimanis parliamentary seat fell vacant after the Federal Court upheld Election Court's ruling that Anifah's victory for the seat during 14th General Election as null and void.
