SMK Bukit Changgang student killed in early morning hit-and-run [NSTTV]

KUALA LANGAT: A daily routine of walking to school together by two best friends ended in tragedy, when one of them was killed and the other sustained injuries in an early morning incident.

The 6.40am incident took place at KM11 of Jalan Banting-Dengkil as the students were crossing the road to catch their school bus.

Nur Aida Rafhanah Zaidi, 13, was killed on the spot whereas her friend Aina Safiyah Saparin, also 13, broke her right hand.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Azman Shari’at said initial investigations revealed that the students were from their respective homes and on their way to school at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Changgang when the incident took place.

He said the dead victim was wearing school uniform while her injured friend was wearing a sports outfit.

“Both victims were crossing the road after the traffic light turned green to get to the bus stop. While they were crossing the road, a car slammed into them and sped off,” he said, adding that the dead victim was sent to the Banting Hospital for post-mortem, while her friend received treatment at the same hospital.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by driving in a reckless manner or at a dangerous speed.
