Coronavirus: Health Ministry to discuss next course of action with Home Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad says he will discuss with Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the next course of action to prevent the spread the novel coronavirus (2019-nCOV).

“I will discuss with Tan Sri (Muhyiddin Yassin) Minister from KDN (Home Ministry) to the identify the next course of action that can be taken." he said when asked to comment if Malaysia has plans to restrict tourists from China after three confirmed cases of 2019-nCOV were detected in the country.

“Such a matter (to restrict tourist from China from coming into Malaysia) is beyond our jurisdiction.

“Having that said, we can propose recommendations and the ministry will provide details involving to the extent of severity and others (involving 2019-nCOV case in the country),” he said.

Earlier, Dr Dzulkefly had confirmed three 2019-nCoV cases in the country involving Chinese citizens.

The trio had been quarantined at a Johor Baru hotel over the past few days and had since been moved to the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor for treatment.

At the moment, several from entering and flying to Wuhan involving Malaysia has been cancelled following the development in the Chinese province that first detected the virus.

The World Health Organisation which had convened an Emergency Committee in Geneva recently has yet to designate the outbreak of the virus as a global health emergency.
