Health Ministry to refer proposal for a health services commission to cabinet soon

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry is in the final stages of looking into the proposal to establish a Health Services Commission.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the proposal would be referred to the cabinet as it was one of the items in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto for the 15th General Election.

"I hope that we can soon announce this matter. I will definitely refer this to the cabinet as we (PH) had this in our manifesto. The details, I cannot announce just yet," he said after launching the 2023 Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM) annual report.

The Hartal Doktor Contract movement had before this urged the government to set up such a commission as well as a Health Reformation Commission.

The movement's spokesman, Dr Muhammad Yassin, had said the two commissions were important not just because they were part of the PH manifesto, but as the best platforms to ensure the welfare and career prospects for contract medical workers in Malaysia.

Dr Dzulkefly said the proposal for the setting up of a Health Services Commission was, in fact, taken up to reform the health sector.
