Coronavirus: KTMB to follow Health Ministry guidelines at Johor, Perlis main stations

KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) complies with guidelines set by Health Ministry at its Perlis and Johor main entry points following positive cases of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in the country.

KTMB chief executive officer Datuk Ir Kamarulzaman Zainal in a statement said the guideline will be followed by all its staff working at the two main entrances of the train stations in Johor Baru, Johor and Padang Besar, Perlis.

Kamarulzaman said the move was enforced immediately as reports of the outbreak were confirmed positive in the country.

“KTMB handles more than 8,000 passengers at the Johor Baru Sentral daily through 31 Shuttle Tebrau train services between Johor Baru and Woodlands in Singapore, while more than 300 passengers have been coming daily to the Padang Besar station to board the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) trains.

"All staff were required to follow all health and safety aspects at the train stations and in each operating train service at the two main entrances,” the statement read.

Kamarulzaman added that similar steps were taken to involve all cargo train staff commuting between Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia.

He said other health and safety measures that KTMB has taken include obligatory use of face masks by staff, to raise awareness on preventative health measures during the outbreak for passengers and provide assistance to health ministry for the screening and quarantine units.

Earlier today, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly had confirmed three 2019-nCoV cases in the country involving Chinese citizens.

The trio had been quarantined at a Johor Baru hotel over the past few days and had since been moved to the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor for isolation and monitoring.

The three are also family members to the first and second positive cases of 2019-nCoV cases in Singapore.
