3 killed, 2 seriously hurt in 5-motorcylcle crash near Kuantan

KUANTAN: Three people were killed and two others seriously injured in a collision between five motorcycles at Km201 of the East Coast Highway (LPT) westbound here, on Saturday night.

The dead were identified as Azlee Mat Daud, 40, Muhammad Amirul Faris Abdullah, 25, and Syamil Nazir @ Nasir, 32, all from Maran, near here, Bernama reported.

The crash occurred at 9.05pm near the Gambang rest and recreational (R&R) area.

The dead and injured victims were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) for post-mortems and treatment.

The five victims are believed to have been part of a convoy travelling from Kuantan to Maran when the accident occurred.

“The crash is believed to have occurred when five motorcycles collided, causing the riders to fall onto the fast lane,” said Pahang Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department chief Superintendent Kamarulzaman Jusoh.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
