PM, Cabinet ministers attend CNY open house in Klang

KLANG: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and several Cabinet ministers attended a Chinese New Year (CNY) open house hosted by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and the Klang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCCI) here, today.

Dr Mahathir and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali – who were both dressed in pink – arrived at the Klang Hokkien Association building at about 11am, and were welcomed by Lim.

Cabinet ministers who also graced the event were Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad and Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok.

Also present was KCCCI chairman Tan Sri Lim Kuang Sia.

The joined about 1,000 members of the public at the event, where the entertainment included a lion dance and traditional performances representing Malaysia’s diverse cultures.

The Prime Minister and other guests participated in the traditional tossing of the ‘yee sang’ salad, which symbolises good fortune, prosperity and all things profitable.

Meanwhile, Lim delivered a speech in which he said that the Pakatan Harapan government, in representing all Malaysians, must devote its energy towards ensuring the prosperity of the country.

“We will face all challenges to protect our economy and to ensure economic growth is maintained, so that the cost of living for the people (is low),” he said.

Lim also expressed confidence that the country’s economy will be better this year, the Year of the Rat.
