'Penang Bay' concept to be presented at 10th WUF

GEORGE TOWN: Penang is set to present to the world its idea on developing the "Penang Bay", Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.

He said a delegation, led by state Local Government Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, would present the development idea for "Penang Bay" during next week’s 10th World Urban Forum (WUF) in Abu Dhabi.

“We are hoping to find the synergy between the bay area -- Penang island side and Butterworth side. We plan to turn the island side into a cultural hub and the mainland side, an innovative hub.

“We are also hoping to look for investment opportunities, for those who want to come and help us here,” he said at the launch of the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT) upgrading project here today.

Present were Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Chow said, to show that the sate “means business”, it would also hold a competition for the best ideas on developing "Penang Bay".

“While we are seeing exciting development plans for the island side, we are also committed to upgrading the wharves in Butterworth.”
