8 minutes added to Subuh prayer time in Penang from tomorrow

GEORGE TOWN: An extra eight minutes will be added to the original time of the Subuh prayer in Penang, starting from tomorrow, the Penang Mufti Department said today.

Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor said the matter was presented during the 116th meeting of the National Council Muzakarah Committee for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia.

“We (the Penang Mufti Department) have agreed to the decision made during that meeting.

"The revision is only for the Subuh prayer time while others remain the same," he said in a statement made available in the Penang Mufti Department's official Facebook page.

Dr Wan Salim said during their meet, they also decided that the Subuh prayer based on the previous timing was valid, and there was no need for any replacement when the new timing is enforced.

In November last year, an extra eight minutes was also added to the original time of the Subuh prayer in Selangor.

The alteration to the Subuh prayer time was made following studies by the Department of Malaysian Islamic Development (Jakim) and researchers from University Malaya, based on the brightness of the sky over that time period.
