PM Muhyiddin visits parents' graves in Muar [NSTTV]

MUAR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin visited the graves of his parents at the Muslim cemetery in Batu 1, Bakri, here, on his first day in office today.

He arrived with his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, at about 12.20pm.

Upon reaching the cemetery, Muhyiddin proceeded to visit the final resting places of his late father, Muhammad Yassin Muhammad and his late mother, Khadijah Kassim.

He was seen pouring rose water on both graves before reciting ‘doa’. Both Muhyiddin and Noorainee later attended a ‘majlis tahlil’ and Surah Yassin recital at the cemetery.

On Saturday, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, through a statement issued by Istana Negara, had decreed that Muhyiddin would be appointed as Malaysia’s eighth prime minister as he had commanded the support of a majority of Dewan Rakyat’s 222 members.

However, Pakatan Harapan stated hours later that it had the numbers to support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s reinstatement as prime minister.

Saturday’s decision by the palace followed a series of interviews between Al-Sultan Abdullah and Members of Parliament (MPs) over the country’s political impasse.

The stalemate was marked by the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister on Feb 24, which triggered a collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government and the establishment of new political party alliances

Yesterday, Muhyiddin took his oath of office as Prime Minister before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara.

He clocked in for work at 7.55am at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya today.
