27-year-old among Malaysia's seven new Covid-19 fatalities

PUTRAJAYA: Seven more Covid-19 deaths were reported to the Health Ministry’s National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), bringing the total number of people who died from the coronavirus as of noon today to 34.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said six of the seven victims who died had underlying health condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems.

The youngest victim from the group, he said, was a 27-year-old man who was being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak on Friday. The man had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems.

He died at 7.44pm yesterday.

The oldest among the group of fatalities was a 91-year-old who was being treated at University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) on Mar 26. She died at 8.48am yesterday.

“One of the victims included a 50-year-old man who was a participant of the Seri Petaling (tabligh) gathering.

“He was treated at the Eche Besar Hajah Kalsom Hospital in Johor on Mar 22, and died at 7.44pm on Mar 28,” Dr Noor Hisham told reporters here, today.

A total of 150 new cases, he said, were reported as of noon today, raising the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in the country to 2,470.
