108 Covid-19 patients recover, 142 new cases reported

PUTRAJAYA: 108 Covid-19 patients in the country have recovered and discharged from hospitals.

In a press conference on Covid-19 updates today, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this is the highest number of recoveries in a day so far.

This brings the total number of patients who have recovered from the virus to 645, or 22.2 per cent of the total 2,908 cases recorded as of noon today.

"Yes, today is the highest number of recoveries (involving Covid-19 cases) we have seen.

“The result of two consecutive tests conducted within 24 hours on a patient must show that they are negative of the virus before they can be discharged (from the hospital).

“This is a good sign... it shows our recovery rate is improving,” he told reporters, here.

Meanwhile, 142 new cases have been recorded today.

102 Covid-19 patients are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 66 requiring respiratory aid.

The Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) were notified of two more deaths related to Covid-19 today, bringing the death toll to 45.

The 44th death is an 80-year-old woman with underlying health complications while the 45th death is a 62-year-old man with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure.

The elderly woman was admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 13 and died at about 4am on March 31.

The other victim died at 10.46pm on the same day and at the same hospital.
