MCO is not over yet, warns Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will continue to take stern action against Movement Control Order (MCO) violators, warned Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In a press conference today, he reminded the public that the MCO was still in place, urging Malaysians to adhere to the rules.

“I see that people seemed more relaxed as if the MCO has ended, with many going out.

“The police will continue to arrest (defaulters), and as I’ve mentioned, in the third phase of the MCO, stricter action will be taken.”

He said the police yesterday arrested 1,174 people for flouting the MCO. From the total, 1,012 were remanded and 162 were granted police bail.

The police also conducted 820 roadblocks nationwide and checked 369,106 vehicles.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri who is also Defence Minister, said foreigners with valid travel documents or permits would be subjected to the same punishments as Malaysians if they flout the MCO.

“Those without documents will be arrested and sent to Immigration depots for further action,” he said.
