EMCO: Taman Sri Murni residents worried about food supply

KUALA LUMPUR: Emotions are running high among residents of Pusat Bandar Utara and eight residential parcels near the Selayang Wholesale Market, which have been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

Caught unaware by the EMCO, residents have voiced their concern about access to food supply.

On the Taman Sri Murni Selayang Facebook page, resident Fadzli Razak said he was impressed by the authorities’ decision to impose the EMCO before sunrise.

“Before subuh... of course, everyone is at home at the time. The authorities are smart. I pray that the screening of residents will go smoothly.”

Another resident who went by the name Dean Guevara on Facebook said he had suspected that Taman Sri Murni would be affected after he saw barbed wire being set up around his block of flats.

Another resident, a food delivery rider who went by the name Wan Panther on Facebook, urged residents to plan their meals.

“(Taman) Sri Murni residents can’t place orders for food delivery. I just came back from the area. The authorities will not allow you to leave your homes. To all food delivery riders who received orders from this area, cancel all your orders.”

This sparked concern among residents, with Facebook user Safiyahchelatih Safiyah wondering how residents would get food as not everyone cooked at home.

These fears were assuaged by other residents, who reminded that, like the EMCO enforced in other areas, food would be delivered by the authorities.

Facebook user Aiman Danial Zulkifli said he believed that the 88th Covid-19 death, a Myanmar national, on Saturday was the reason behind the EMCO.

“It’s very likely that this was the reason behind the need to close off Taman Sri Murni and Taman Wilayah.”
