Over 20,000 arrested for violating MCO since March 18

KUALA LUMPUR: The public is reminded that there has been no relaxation on Movement Control Order (MCO) restrictions for Covid-19 green zones, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This follows an increase in arrests of MCO violators in green zones, where no new Covid-19 cases has been reported.

"I was pleased when there was a decline in arrests made due to violations of the MCO for three days straight.

"However, we found that the number had increased yesterday, with 577 people arrested, compared to 386 the day before (Friday).

"Out of the total number of people arrested yesterday, 505 are being remanded and 72 are out on police bail.

"I would like to remind everyone, including those living in green zones, that the MCO still applies to all," he told a press conference today.

Ismail Sabri said a total of 20,011 people have been arrested for violating the MCO so far.

He added that the police and the armed forces mounted 824 roadblocks yesterday, with 446,024 vehicles checked.

A total of 37,128 spot checks were carried out and 6,798 premises checked nationwide yesterday.
