Dr Noor Hisham refutes claim MCO 'has been lifted'

PUTRAJAYA: Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah made it clear today that the Movement Control Order (MCO) is still very much in force, contrary to claims by certain quarters.

"We did not end the MCO. The perception that we have lifted the order is wrong," said Dr Noor Hisham, referring to a Facebook posting widely shared on social media.

He said the government had relaxed the MCO to a certain degree based on criteria listed by the World Health Organisation, which include empowering the community to possess strong social discipline to live in accordance with new norms.

The MCO was implemented on March 18 to curb the spread of Covid-19, which has killed 105 people in the country.
