German tourist heads home after 56 days in Taman Negara

JERANTUT: German tourist Thomas Harry, 54, who was stranded in Taman Negara since the Movement Control Order (MCO) started on March 18 decided to go home today .

After 56 days of staying there, the businessman has decided to begin his journey home.

Harry is the only tourist who chose to stay on at Taman Negara since the MCO began. He has been staying at the Greenland Guesthouse owned by Afzal Abdul Aziz, 42.

"I want to thank the owner for the friendly service and for the help he gave as well as the people who helped me all this time.

"There were many fond memories during my stay. But at the same time, I am happy to return to my home country to reunite with my family," he said, adding that he will have a transit in the Netherlands before he continues his journey to Germany.

Meanwhile, Afzal said he personally sent Harry to Kuala Lumpur to allow the latter to catch his flight.

They left Kuala Tahan at 8am today while adhering to procedures and after seeking permission from the police.

Harry was also sent to the German embassy in Kuala Lumpur first to settle some matters.

"I am glad it went well for him. I am grateful there were no untoward incidents during his stay in Taman Negara. My only hope is for him to be reunited with his family as he has been separated from them for so long due to the MCO," said Afzal
