Visit on first day of Hari Raya only

KUALA LUMPUR: Hari Raya visit is limited only on the first day of Aidilfitri, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

"This was decided during the National Security Council special meeting. The visits are limited to close family members of not more than 20 people. This will be part of the standard operating procedure (SOPs) for Hari Raya, Pesta Kaamatan and Gawai celebrations.

"The size of the house must also be taken into consideration. If a flat unit is 600sq ft (55.74 sqm), 20 people would be too crowded. Use (your) discretion. Maybe only allow a few people at one time," the senior minister told a Press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said the SOP would also include the use of hand sanitiser (or washing hands regularly), face masks and social distancing. Family members are advised not to share food on one plate.

Ismail Sabri also reminded Malaysians to carry out their responsibility in protecting their family members, especially the vulnerable groups – elderly and children – from Covid-19.

He cited a case in Bahrain where 16 people in a family contracted Covid-19 after breaking fast together, and a family of four in New Jersey, United States, who succumbed to the infection after a gathering.
