Spouses travelling interstate need police permission

KUALA LUMPUR: Spouses who wish to travel interstate to meet their families must get police permission.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said although travel for spouses living in different states was allowed, married couples must apply for a travel permit before doing so.

"As announced by the Prime Minister, 'weekend husbands' or 'weekend wives' living and working in different states can travel to see their families.

"However, they must first get permission from the police before travelling interstate," he said at his daily press conference today.

He added that married couples could start applying for their travel permit from the police.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that married couples living apart in different states could apply to travel to meet their loved ones.

Applications can be made through the Gerak Malaysia app or at the nearest police station.
