E-learning is the future of education

KUALA LUMPUR: Digitalisation of teaching and learning through online platforms must be strengthened as e-learning is the future of education.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said teachers must develop their skills in terms of online teaching and home-based learning, which are the new normal in the teaching field.

The spread of the Covid-19 virus, he said, has dramatically changed the educational landscape in the country.

"Throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO), teaching and learning are no longer conducted face-to-face. Instead, teachers use a variety of other methods to connect with students.

"Many use online applications such as Google Classroom, cikgooTUBE and Zoom to implement home-based learning.

"There are also teachers who use Whatsapp and Telegram. I'm told, there are teachers who conduct Physical Exercise lessons online," he said during his televised address in conjunction with Teacher's Day today.

Muhyiddin, however, said he is aware that there are still obstacles to implement e-learning at home because not all students have access to good internet connection and many do not have proper devices.

"For students in this group, I know teachers have used a variety of other methods to reach out to them.

"For example, some teachers have printed questions for students as homework and worked with the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) to send questions to the students' homes.

"I am deeply moved and deeply grateful for the dedication shown by our teachers and parents," he added.
