Motorists still trying to sneak across borders to balik kampung

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of drivers attempting to cross the state borders during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) to balik kampung decreased slightly to 1,175 yesterday compared to 1,248 motorists on Saturday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police had conducted checks on a total of 156,096 vehicles at 148 interstate roadblocks nationwide.

He said the drivers were ordered to turn back by the police.

"They (motorists) are still giving the same reason, to balik kampung. The police have advised them but they still want to go back to their villages to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

"I hope those who are attempting to cross the state borders to balik kampung to hold the thoughts of going back.

"If they were asked to return back, it will burden them even more," he said at a daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

He also said as of yesterday, the task force operation has conducted a total of 69,797 checks on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) compliance nationwide.

Ismail Sabri, who is also the Defence Minister, said the task force also checked 24,639 vehicles, 2,130 public transportation and 402 vessels.

"A total of 4,914 department stores, 5,044 restaurants, 804 hawkers, 1,109 factories and 3,354 banks have been inspected.
