No police permission needed for workers travelling daily between Kedah-Penang

KEPALA BATAS: Police have shot down rumours that people who travel daily between Penang and Kedah for work must get special police permission before crossing state borders.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that the workers in question do not have to come to the police district headquarters or any police station for any sort of verification.

"As long as the staff can show their workers' ID (identification card) and letter from their employer, it should be good enough.

"Such permissions are only required for emergency and medical matters, as well as for married couples who are separated by states to meet," he told a press conference today.

He was responding to rumours that workers were turned back from roadblocks near the two states' borders.

The purported incident was said to have happened at Permatang Bendahari and Pinang Tunggal.
