PUTRAJAYA: The Cheras flat cluster is most likely linked to Hari Raya Aidilfitri visits, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said while a student from a Tahfiz centre had been the first case detected from the cluster, investigations have so far revealed that students, teachers and staff of the centre in question have had no history of attending Seri Petaling mosque Tabligh gathering.
He said there were six cases which were detected so far from the Cheras flat cluster, including three residents of the flats. The three others are residing outside.
"The positive cases in this cluster are the family members and friends of the first case. And while the cause of the infections are still being investigated, it is likely to be related to Hari Raya Aidilfitri visits," he said in a statement here today.
So far the authorities have identified 120 people with the help of Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) via their Active Case Detection strategy.
Besides the six positive cases, 76 have tested negative, while 38 are still waiting results.
The other methods of controlling the spread of infection at this cluster include the separation of contacts, sample-taking and disinfection.
Publicity campaigns on hygiene, wearing masks and maintaining distances were also being carried out while encouraging people to avoid crowded and confined spaces.
"We would like to remind everyone - even though Syawal and Hari Raya Aidilfitri is celebrated for a month through open houses and big gatherings - we are still under the Conditional Movement Control Order(CMCO) where such activities are banned outright.
"So we are urging people to stop doing this to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission and embrace the new norms," he said.
